In December 1999, British artist Tracey Emin, 37, nearly won the Tate Gallery's prestigious Turner Prize with her conceptual installation "My Bed," consisting of an actual unmade bed stained with urine and littered with panties, condoms, pillboxes and empty vodka bottles, supposedly a rendering of the artist's bed during a suicidal period of her life. On seeing Emin's exhibit, one Tate patron apparently concluded that a vandal had struck, and tried to make the bed and tidy up, unintentionally vandalizing the exhibit.
