Cumberland, Md., Western Correctional Institution inmate Michael Boyer was charged with murder after a guard saw him fatally bludgeon his cellmate, Timothy Davis, 37, with a television set on February 13, 2011. Davis, who was serving a 50-year sentence for attempted first degree murder and drug and handgun convictions, was pronounced dead at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Boyer, who was serving a 50-year sentence for robbery with a deadly weapon, pleaded guilty in February 2012 to second degree manslaughter charges, and was sentenced to an additional 17 years to be served after his 50-year sentence is up. Prosecutors were unable to determine a motive for the murder.
