Harold Barton Unruh: Rampage in Camden
In 1949, America saw its first single-episode mass murder. World War II vet Harold Barton Unruh (right) grabbed one of his guns, strode through Camden's Cramer Hill area, and opened fire (left, sketch of crime scene). He wounded 3 people and killed 13, among them a bakery truck driver, a barber, the drugstore owners, and a tailor's wife. Unruh told police it was all because someone stole his new gate. He spent the rest of his life in a mental hospital, dying in 2009. (Bottom, Unruh's high school yearbook entry)
