Frank Balistrieri
Milwaukee boss Frank Balistrieri was known as "The Mad Bomber" because he often used improvised explosive devices, a killing method that caused many men who feared him to invest in remote starters for their cars. An educated and well-groomed man, Balistrieri often conducted business with Las Vegas casinos, who turned over a part of their profits to the Chicago mob, to which the Milwaukee faction was held accountable. In 1985, Balistrieri was convicted of extortion and bookmaking, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released in 1991, and died of heart disease two years later.
