Kathleeh Soliah: Shootout in LA
Pictured in 1974, 27-year-old Kathleen Soliah was a Berkeley radical who later joined the Symbionese Liberation Army, the radical leftist group infamous for kidnapping Patty Hearst earlier that year. In 1974, L.A. police tracked the Symbionese Liberation Army to a safehouse on East 54th Street. A shootout and fire ensued, and all six of the SLA soldiers were killed. The deaths inspired Kathleen Soliah, a close friend of one of the dead, to deliver an impassioned public eulogy — and later, police allege, to join the group.
