Jerry Sandusky and Penn State's Sex Abuse Scandal
The First Reported Case
The First Reported Case
Victim 6 first met Sandusky in 1994 or 1995, but did not have an inappropriate encounter with him until 1998 when he was 11. His mother called Penn State police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare to investigate an incident in which she claimed that her son told her that Sandusky had showered with him. The mother feared that Sandusky might have had inappropriate contact with the child.

With her permission, investigators taped two phone conversations she had with Sandusky, on May 13 and May 19, 1998, in which, according to the grand jury report, she "confronted Sandusky about showering with her son, the effect it had on her son, whether Sandusky had sexual feelings when he hugged her naked son in the shower and where Victim 6's buttocks were when Sandusky hugged himshe asked him if his 'private parts' touched Victim 6 when he bear hugged him. Sandusky replied, 'I don't think so maybe.' At the conclusion of the second conversation, after Sandusky was told he could not see Victim 6 anymore, Sandusky said, 'I understand. I was wrong.'"
