Police in Albuquerque, N.M., made national headlines when they arrested not one but two academics within a week in June 2011 on charges of running an online ring of over 200 prostitutes servicing over 1,000 johns. Farleigh Dickinson physics professor David Flory, who maintained a vacation home in Albuquerque, was nabbed first for his role in running the Southwest Companions website and charged with 40 felony counts of promoting prostitution. Four days later, former University of New Mexico president and professor emeritus of political science F. Chris Garcia was arrested and charged with conspiracy, promoting prostitution and tampering with evidence.
