Nevada — Tina Manning Trudell
Tina Trudell (pictured with family,) a member of the Paiute-Shoshone tribe on the Duck Valley Reservation, was a water rights activist. She was married to activist John Trudell. Always lightening rods for anti-Indian hatred, on February 12, 1979 the Trudells' luck ran out. Merely twelve hours after John delivered a speech critical of the United Stated, during which he burned an American flag, their home was torched. The arsonists killed Tina, along with her fetus, three children, and her mother.
