Ligthard v. King
Ligthard v. King
"Love is blind, but marriage restores its sight." — Georg C. Lichtenberg

English couple Liz King, left, and Daphne Ligthard, right, registered their civil partnership in Ashford, Kent, on February 11, 2006. They were one of the first homosexual couples to marry under the 2005 Civil Partnership Act. However, less than two months later they separated amidst accusations of infidelity, lies and betrayal.

The trouble erupted when King ran off with a woman who had been a guest at the wedding. King claimed that the wedding had been just to make Ligthard happy, and that the love had gone out of the relationship years ago.

The couple's lawyer said they would have to wait a year to begin the painful process of divorce.
