Fire Starters
Deloris Gillespie, 73, pushed open the door of the elevator on December 17, 2011, and found herself standing face to face with her attacker: a man wearing white gloves and a surgical mask, carrying a tank of fuel, a barbecue lighter and a Molotov cocktail. Police have arrested and charged Jerome Isaac, 47, with the attack. Isaac confessed that he was angry with Gillespie because she owed him $2,000 for odd jobs. Neighbors say, she hired him, but let him go when she caught him stealing from her. Isaac, who had been waiting for her to return from her errands, doused Gillespie with fuel and set her on fire with a lit Molotov cocktail. The attack was captured in its entirety by surveillance cameras. Gillespie burned to death in the elevator. Isaac turned himself in and confessed to the crime the same day. He is charged with murder and arson.
