Deplorable Conditions
In Port St. Lucie, FL., neighbors could smell the filth inside Roberta Bamonte's house. They were concerned about her 91-year-old mother, who had experienced breathing problems in the past. In August, 2011, police, called by the Department of Children and Families, entered the home to discover garbage stacked from floor to ceiling, a refrigerator filled with spoiled food and three cats. WPTV reports that in addition to the house, the garage, two sheds and a storage unit on the property were also cluttered with trash. Bamonte was charged with elderly neglect. Her mother was moved to a care facility, and the three cats were removed from the home by animal control officers.
