Jim Morel told his friend Jason Weir, as they settled back into Weir's truck and got back on the road, "One last time ... I want you to tell me what happened one last time and I never want to talk about it ever again. If there's ever a problem, I want to know the entire story so I can help you."
Jim's nerves were so shot as it was, he said later, that when Weir told the story again, adding more "sick details" than he had before, it put Jim over the edge.
After Weir finished and Jim collected himself, he said, "Okay, there's murder weapons hidden in the woods. Let's go find them right now."
Weir drove out into the woods where he thought the weapons were, but they couldn't find anything. It was getting dark.
The next day, Jim took detectives out to the same spot and they found some newspapers from the date that Marina was killed that they believed the weapons were wrapped in, according to Jim, but not the weapons themselves.
Nevertheless, law enforcement had enough to make three arrests. They just couldn't do it right away, Jim was told.
"What?" He wanted it over. He wanted Jason Weir, Thomas Lally and Anthony Calabro taken into custody immediately, so he could sleep at night.
Warrants had to be drawn up, which would take time.
