Jason Weir and Jim Morel were eating when Weir brought up the fact that Ant was in a bad place lately.
"He spent all his money," Weir said.
"Damn," Jim said. "We need to get you on track, though, Jay," Jim suggested.
Weir had an odd look about him. "Marina," he said quietly, leaning in toward Jim, "she didn't exactly die on her own."
"What? What do you mean?" Jim was "floored" by the comment, he said. At first, he thought, I don't want to know anything more ... don't tell me anything ...I don't want to know.
"Tom [Lally] ... he beat her to death."
"Huh?" The thoughts that ran through Jim's mind, he later remembered, were of his own grandmother, such a fragile woman, like Marina, being beaten by three kids. What Marina must have gone through. The pain. The fear.
Then, No, I don't want to know. Don't tell me ...
"But curiosity, you know, it's gets the best of you," Jim recalled. "I had to know."
"What happened?" he asked Weir.
"Tom hit her with a frying pan."
