Tip of the Iceberg
The cases chosen for this story barely scratch the surface with regards to crimes committed by religious leaders. Not only are these numbers astounding, but they continue to grow.
As of this writing, investigators in Massachusetts are reinvestigating the 1972 murder of Daniel Croteau, an altar boy whose battered body was discovered floating in the Chicopee River. The prime suspect in the case has recently been identified as a defrocked Catholic priest.
In Rome, Georgia, police recently arrested Richard Scott Harper, a pastor of Hollywood Baptist Church. According to police reports Harper is accused of murdering Thad John Glenn Reynolds, a longtime member and deacon of the church. Investigators speculate the murder was a result of a love triangle between the pastor, his wife and the deacon's wife. A trial is still pending.
