BOSTON (AP) — The British man charged with fatally shooting his wife and infant daughter has been returned to jail after a psychiatric evaluation determined that he is not suicidal, a sheriff said.
Neil Entwistle, 28, was transferred to a state hospital on Dec. 21 after a letter he had written to his parents in England was found in his cell.
The letter said he had nothing to live for and that if he died, he wanted his ashes scattered over the graves of his wife, Rachel, and 9-month-old daughter, Lillian, Middlesex County Sheriff James DiPaola said.
There was no explicit suicide threat in the letter, but jail officials were concerned about depression. He was returned to jail Wednesday.
"He does not appear to be a threat to himself or to others," DiPaola told The Boston Globe.
Rachel and Lillian Entwistle were found fatally shot together in a bed at their home in Hopkinton in January 2006.
A trial is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1.
