Police in Devon and Cornwall, England, have a true mystery on their hands, and are reaching out to the public in hopes of identifying the body of a man who was found on a beach completely naked, except for his socks and one shoe. Mysteriously, an old photo of a child found near the body is also believed to have belonged to the man.
The Office of the Medical Examiner maintains a list of all unidentified remains found in Chicago. Each entry for a John or Jane Doe lists a description of the person and their belongings and the location and date they were found. A few have pictures.
Nearly 25 years later, the severed head of a woman found on March 5, 1989, on a golf course in Hopewell, New Jersey, has finally been identified. Known until now as only Jane Doe, authorities confirmed on March 27, 2013, that the head belonged to Heidi Balch, prostitute and first victim of Joel Rifkin.
