Today in Crime History: Notorious serial killer H.H. Holmes is hanged

On May 7, 1896, serial killer H.H. Holmes was hanged. Even at the noose, he changed his story stating that he only killed two people although he’d previously confessed to 27. The trapdoor under his feet opened at 10:13 a.m. and H.H. Holmes met his end.

H. H. Holmes: One of America’s Worst Serial Killers

Homes is known for his infamous “Murder Castle” in which he gassed and dismembered his victims and stripped their remains in acid baths. He sold off the internal organs and skeletal reconstructions to medical schools around the country. Holmes was ultimately convicted of four murders, but is believed to have committed over 100.
