In what seems like an episode of Storage Hunters meets The Silence of the Lanbs, investigators in Pensacola, Fla., are trying to determine what happened to the 100 people whose brains, hearts and lungs were found in a storage unit, and how they got there. The unit belonged to medical examiner Dr. Michael Berkland until it was auctioned off last week. The remains were crudely packed in plastic bags, cups and containers, some cracked and leaking.
Last week, contractors working in the Sterling Heights area of Detroit, Mich., found a dozen body parts in a sewer about 50 feet below street level. “There were maybe a dozen softball-sized pieces of a body,” said Sterling Heights Police Department Lt. Luke Riley. With very little information to go on, police are hoping a tattoo will help identify the victim.
Contractors working in the Sterling Heights area of Detroit, Mich., found a dozen body parts in a sewer about 50 feet below street level. “This morning, they go down to begin their work and they get down to a large grate at the 50-foot level and they see the body laying down there,” said Sterling Heights Police Department Lt. Luke Riley. “There were maybe a dozen softball-sized pieces of a body,” Riley continued, “No arms or leg or torso — nothing like that. Definitely a Caucasian. We’re not sure if it’s male or female.”
After finding a human hand in June, officials in Jackson County, Mo., announced today that they have found a human foot along the Little Blue Trace Trail near Independence.
Authorities always suspected that the severed foot and hand sent to two Vancouver schools belonged to Jun Lin, the Chinese student brutally murdered by “Canadian Psycho” Luka Magnotta. DNA test results released on Wednesday confirmed it.
Even as Luka Magnotta sits behind bars in Berlin, his sensational crime continues to rock Canada — on Tuesday, two Vancouver schools received packages containing a human foot and human hand in boxes similar to those that delivered victim Jun Lin’s limbs to Canadian political parties last week.
On Tuesday, political advisor Jenni Byrne opened a package that had been mailed to the headquarters of Cananda’s Conservative party. What she saw shocked and disgusted her — the box contained a severed human foot. But that was just the beginning.
