Only 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800 took off from New York’s JFK Airport, but never reached it’s destination, Paris, France. Shortly after taking off, it burst into flames, killing everyone aboard. A four-year-long investigation pointed to a short circuit as the cause. One member of the investigating team, however, as well as numerous eyewitnesses, became convinced that a missile brought down the aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board stood by its report, citing its investigation as being one of the most detailed ever conducted. The debate over what some describe as “streaks of light” seen just prior to the explosion continues.
