Police in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, were summoned to the home of Derrick Maynard and his wife on December 16, 2013, at around 10 p.m. to find the defendant looking about like he does here in this mugshot. We are not sure what that mark is under his right eye, but are hoping it is a boot print. The mugshot in all its glory is shown below.
According to a court affidavit, Maynard had been drinking whiskey when he began to behave abusively towards his wife. He reportedly began by throwing a Wii remote at her, then pumped a presumably loaded a pellet rifle, pointed it at her and said, “You deserve to die.”
When he punched her in the head, however, she seems to have stood up for herself rather effectively. Police say she kicked him in the head several times in self defense.
By the time officers arrived they found a beaten and apparently intoxicated Maynard unable to stand, perhaps woozy from to getting kicked in the head repeatedly. They found the pellet rifle in the living room. Maynard was arrested for aggravated assault with a weapon and threatening to kill. His bond was set at $25,000.
Incidentally, Maynard pleaded guilty to domestic assault and battery in September 2013 and was sentenced to 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, though it is not known if he was winning in counseling, or even attending it.
