Boy thought to have died in fire was actually drowned, say police

What at first appeared to have been a tragic accident is actually a case of murder, according to authorities in Colorado Springs. On Friday, firefighters rushed to the apartment where Shannon Dodson, 42, lived with her 5-year-old son, Jude Marray-Gomez. The little boy died following the fire and Dodson was treated for smoke inhalation.

Instead of being released from the hospital to recover from the trauma of losing a child in a fire, Dodson was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center, where she’s being held without bond on a charge of first degree murder. According to autopsy results released Sunday, Marray-Gomez didn’t die from smoke inhalation. Instead, the boy reportedly died from being drowned.

Dodson was reportedly in a custody battle with her son’s father and due in court for a hearing on November 15.
