Crime Library: Criminal Minds and Methods

Life and Death: A real-time map of world birth and death

Here at Crime Library we are acutely aware of the fact that people die every day, some from natural causes, but others from foul play, the most famous of their stories filling our pages. Let’s not forget that everyday life happens too. Seen here is a real-time animated display of birth and death on our planet.

Based on statistics of where births and deaths occur, the map created by software developer and doctor in mathematics Brad Lyon, is intended to show how our population will increase from 7 billion today to 9 billion in 30 years.

Watching life on earth wink in and out all over the globe conveys so much more than Lyon ever intended.

Since we are unable to embed the map here, you canĀ View a full-page, interactive version of the map here.
