Angela Garcia had an argument with her 10-year-old son and probably said something along the lines of “I’m going to pull this car over. And make you walk home.”
When the threat didn’t work, Garcia, 34, actually carried it out. She pulled her white Audi S4 over alongside a busy stretch of I-45 near Houston, TX and made her son get out and start walking.
She pulled away and over the hill and then stopped, to wait for him. He wouldn’t actually have to walk all the way home.
But instead, police noticed the boy and intervened. Concerned for the boy’s safety walking alongside a highway they picked him up and drove along until they spotted mom’s car.
Garcia was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child. She is out on bond. The boy is staying with relatives. Child Protective Services will likely assess the boy’s welfare in the home.
League City, TX Police Officer Reagan Pena told a local news station ”Making your child walk home on I-45 at 8:30 at night in the dark, in a busy stretch where many fatalities have occurred — that is crossing the line.”
