The trial of “Country Boy” killer Cody Legebokoff, was set to begin today in British Columbia, but has been postponed. Legebokoff was charged with murdering missing teen Loren Leslie, 15 and legally blind, who may have met him online. He is also being charged with killing three sex workers, all of whom vanished during the same 2009-2010 time frame as Leslie. Legebokoff, who has been in custody since November 2010, now faces four counts of first-degree murder. The other victims are Jill Stuchenko, 35, Cynthia Maas, 35, and Natasha Montgomery, 23. Montgomery’s body had not been found.

Despite the new charges, there is good news for Legebokoff: he has been ruled out as a suspect in the Highway of Tears Murders, the last of which occurred in 2006, when Legebokoff would have barely been of age to drive.

Cody Legebokoff, known on his Nexopia.com profile as 1CountryBoy, has been described by those who know him as a typical kid. The athletic young man enjoyed snowboarding, worked as a mechanic at a a car dealership, and even had a steady girlfriend.

He came to the attention of Mounties when one witnessed Legebokoff swerve his truck onto a highway from a logging road. Retracing the tire tracks, the Mountie found Loren Leslie’s remains. Legebokoff was 20 at the time.

Police later connected Legebokoff the the other victims through his online activity.

Investigators have kept all evidence, cause of death, even possible motives under wraps, but promise that all will be revealed during the trial. The first part of the trial, however, involves jury selection, and is closed to the media.

The next hearing is scheduled for November 2, 2013.
