A Sacramento, California, grandma allegedly made the mistake this week of mixing vodka with babysitting, and reportedly tried to give away her grandchild to a stranger before the day was over.

Tina Steiner, 63, was reportedly watching her 4-year-old granddaughter for her own daughter, and decided to take the child on an outing to a narrow grassy strip near the busy intersection of Manzanita and Cypress, which, judging from the Google Street View images, is a really busy intersection with not a lot of grass.

They settled down on the grass about ten feet from the rushing cars, where grandma allegedly opened and enjoyed a bottle of vodka. When she passed out a passerby became concerned that Steiner was having some sort of medical emergency. When that person approached Steiner she reportedly tried to give her grandchild away to the stranger. Luckily, the stranger called 911 for help.

“We found out that the female was not medically injured she was intoxicated to the point where she could not care for the child,” said Sgt. Lisa Bowman of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Steiner’s property manager Betty Taber describes Steiner as “good with kids,” but added that when intoxicated Steiner is like Jekyll and Hyde.

The child was uninjured, and was returned to her mother. Steiner was arrested for felony child endangerment.
