Canadian Robert Wilkinson, who made viral video fame when the November 2011 police cruiser video of his post-arrest transport to jail was uploaded to the Internet, has decided to run for public office.Wilkinson, who was arrested for DUI, wasn’t mean, or violent or gross, he simply launched into a six minute a cappella version of Queen’s operatic classic rock hit “Bohemian Rhapsody.” For those of you who missed it, see the full version embedded below.
The Alberta man has reportedly submitted the requisite five resident signatures and nomination papers to register himself as an official candidate in the town of Edson, Alberta, aka the Heart of the Yellowhead, for it’s location in Yellowhead County, population less than 9,000, home to Canada’s largest slo-pitch tournament.
Wilkinson will be running against incumbent Greg Pasychny, who according to O.Canada.com, “is on his third term as mayor and serves on the Edson Volunteer Fire Department and Canadian Ski Patrol,” though he does not seem to star in any viral Youtube videos.
At this time Wilkinson has not made any official statements to the press, nor does he seem to have a website set up for his campaign. Any who wish to hear the candidates speak may do so on October 10th at the Royal Canadian Legion at 6:30.
The election is scheduled for October 21st, 2013 from 10am to 8pm at the Edson Royal Canadian Legion.
May the best man win.
