Many Americans associate laundry hanging from windows and balconies with cherished vacations in the more charming places of the Old World. Last week, however, a woman and a man both died in Salarpur Village, India, in a tragic and weird accident that occurred while she was hanging the laundry out on the line.

According to Times of India, on September 19, 2013, Poonam Tiwari, 20, was on a third floor balcony hanging the laundry out to dry. She apparently slipped and fell off the balcony. She then plunged the three stories to the ground where she landed on street sweeper Om Prakash, 60, who was sweeping the area below. R.K. Mishra, DSP of Noida said that ”Both victims were rushed to the district hospital where they were declared brought dead.” It seem they both died at the instant of impact.

Tiwari was renting the apartment with her husband, who was reportedly out of town when the accident occurred. Police are investigating, though the family reportedly does not suspect foul play.
