In Fairfield, California, a 21-yaer-old man is accused of drowning his father’s dog in a pond outside City Hall. Police say Bryan Cavanah held the female pitbull underwater until she died. When asked by police why he did it, Cavanah reportedly said he didn’t know. He is charged with felony animal cruelty and probation violation stemming from a prior assault conviction.
On the East Coast, a Navy sailor is accused of stabbing to death a puppy he was dogsitting for friends. Joseph Justesen, 24, of Newport News, Va., was allegedly found passed out on the floor next to the dead Shepherd/Retriever mix named Zoe. Police say blood and a knife were found in the room. Justesen is charged with animal cruelty.
Lastly, and perhaps most horribly, an Atlanta area man is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty for allegedly beheading two puppies. LIke in Justesen’s case, Robert Davis was supposed to be watching the two puppies for a couple of days. When owner Tyler Tedesco came to pick up the pit bull pups, he saw that they had allegedly been decapitated and buried in Davis’s yard. Tedesco called 911 and police arrived to find the dogs’ bodies in the woods.
