A Missouri mom is behind bars, facing the most heinous of allegations: she’s accused of allowing, or even encouraging, her boyfriend to rape her 4-month-old daughter. The little girl, Ashlynn Peters, died last December after being allegedly raped and strangled. Prosecutors say mom Jessica Howell was aware that the boyfriend, Jordan Lafayette Prince, was a convicted sex offender when she allowed him to spend time with her daughter.

That December, Howell (then going by Peters) took to Facebook to defend Prince (post shown below). She had not yet been charged. In her Facebook post, she links to a report of an incident where a baby died from asphyxia, pointing to it as a sign that “Ashlynn’s death was accidental.” She claims that Ashlynn fell and hit her head, leading to asphyxia, and vows to “not give up on [Prince's] innocence.”

The probable cause statement (shown below), however, does not match Howell’s claims. According to Detective Stepp with the St. Charles police department, Ashlynn suffered contusions all over her body and showed signs of sexual assault, including anal tearing. The anal penetration, states the document, was enough to kill Ashlynn without the strangulation.

According to the criminal complaint (shown below)  against her, Howell sent Prince text messages in which she allowed him to rape Ashlynn. “In those text messages she suggested and encouraged some unspeakable things,” said prosecutor Tim Lohmar. “It is very, very disturbing.” The complaint also states that Howell was aware that Prince had previously been convicted of sexually abusing a child.

Prince was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, child abuse and forcible sodomy.

Howell faces charges of second-degree murder and child abuse.
