A Washington State dad couldn’t handle his baby girl’s crying, so he allegedly put the infant in the freezer and took a nap. When the child’s mother came home, authorities say she saw the dad, 25-year-old Tyler Deutsch, taking the six-week-old baby out of the freezer. The mom tried to call 911, and was allegedly blocked by Deutsch, who didn’t want to get in trouble. When the baby got to the hospital, her body temperature was 84 degrees. The baby also had a broken arm, a broken leg and a head injury, indicating other possible abuse. She is expected to survive but may suffer complications, according to local news outlet KOMO News.
According to authorities, Deutsch admitted to putting the baby in the freezer, where the temperature was a frigid 10 degrees Fahrenheit. He was remorseful and said he was trying to help the child, say police. Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer told KOMO, ”It was only a six-week-old kid – can’t do much other than cry – and from what we understand he wanted the baby to stop crying so he put the baby in the freezer.”
Deutsch is now charged with assault of a child, criminal mistreatment and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.
