Hatchet-Wielding Viral Video Hero Kai is Wanted for Murder

From our friends at:

Authorities in Union County, N.J., have issued an arrest warrant for Caleb Lawrence McGillvary. You probably know him better as Kai the homeless hitchhiker, the colorful interview subject who saved two people’s lives from a racist in West Fresno, Calif., with a “SMASH” from his handy hatchet in February. He also goes by Kai Lawrence, Caleb Kai Lawrence, and Kai Nicodemus.

He’s wanted for the murder of Joseph Galfy, Jr.

McGillvary is homeless, although he prefers the term “homefree.”

Galfy, an attorney, was found unresponsive Monday at his home in Clark, N.J., after police received a call to check on his well-being. An autopsy revealed that Galfy died from blunt force trauma.

According to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow, McGillvary has cut his long, wavy hair in attempt to alter his appearance.

McGillvary originally gained Internet fame after his interview with FOX affiliate KMPH went viral and was songified by the Gregory Brothers.

He explained that he was just simply following the life philosophy of being decent and treating everyone like people.

McGillvary was last seen at a rail station in Haddonfield, N.J. (a little over an hour south of Clark), and is considered armed and dangerous.

Police are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for the case. Anyone with information on McGillvary should contact the Union County Crime Stoppers at (908) 654-TIPS or visit www.uctip.org.
