So what do people in senior living homes do with their time anyway? Bingo? Ice cream socials? Perhaps a hand or two of pinochle? Well at least three people at the Vicente Tibbs Senior Citizen Center on West Street in Edgewood, New Jersey, spent at least some of their time smoking crack and doing marketing for the local prostitutes.

The inkling of a possible problems first came to the Englewood Housing Authority in march 2013 during a safety seminar in which seniors reported weird, unfamiliar visitors at the center, specifically “vagrants in lounge chairs [and] drunks wandering the halls”.

Disturbingly enough, the Latin Times reports that there were even used sexual apparatuses in the gym. Whatever that is, it’s probably a foregone conclusion that you don’t want anything like where your grandma’s living.

The sting netted James Parham, 75, who reportedly confessed to inviting prostitutes into the building for liaisons with his younger friends. Parham and Cheryl Chaney, 66, who was in the process of being evicted anyway, were arrested for maintaining a drug nuisance and for possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither Parham nor Chaney had any police record prior to being admitted to the facility. A third suspect, Selma McDuffie, 54, a school crossing guard, was charged with possessing a crack cocaine pipe. McDuffie is being treated as an accomplice, but was not a resident, and is banned from the building.

Of the law-abiding seniors in the building Chief Arthur O’Keefe of the Englewood police said, “Essentially, they were prisoners in their own building. Since the arrests police have stepped up patrols and the situation is reportedly improving.
