Ever wonder how ice cream truck drivers handle the constant playing of that catchy, catchy tune without going nuts? Well, it appears that they don’t handle it very well, at least in the case of Joshua Malatino, known in the ice cream biz as Sno Kone Joe.
According to the Albany Times Union, the 34-year-old ice cream man has been hellbent on driving a rival, Mr. Ding-a-Ling, out of town. When Mr. Ding-a-Ling, 53, started selling ice cream on the mean streets of Gloversville, Malatino reportedly yelled taunts at him, telling him ”This is my town!” and ”You don’t have a chance!”
Malatino also allegedly brought his 21-year-old girlfriend along for the ride, and the two followed Ding-a-Ling around, playing their jingle loudly and trying to steal his customers with the promise of free ice cream.
The Sno Kone Joe and Mr. Ding-a-Ling dispute has been going on for nearly a decade, the Times Union reports, and Malatino has been to harass rivals in the past. This time, he and his girlfriend are charged with harassment, a violation, and misdemeanor stalking.
Mr. Ding-a-Ling, meanwhile, is trucking around Gloversville undisturbed.
