Crime Library: Criminal Minds and Methods

Mugshot of the Day

We are taught not to judge a book by its cover, but in the case of this particular “book,” Michael Campbell, who has an inverted-pentagram forehead tattoo and a large bow-tie tattoo on his neck, readers may find not judging to be a challenge.

Campbell was arrested in Springfield, Missouri, on April 25, 2013, for misdemeanor assault after he allegedly beat a woman, whose relationship to him is unclear. According to police, the woman sustained injuries to her mouth and face, which included a large cut inside her lip, swelling and purple bruising around her right eye. Police believe it was an incident of domestic violence.

So does the victim and two witnesses, who say that Campbell punched and choked her.

Campbell, I guess couldn’t realistically say: ‘You got the wrong guy! It was the other wildly tattooed bald guy in town! So he did the next logical thing: He blamed the dog.

He said she was playing with the dog when she fell. Oops!

According to the probable cause statement, Campbell, who has two pending felony cases: One for being a sex offender within 500 feet of a park and the other for failing to register as a sex offender, “said he did not hit women, and I told him that witnesses said they saw him punching (the woman) with his fists. Campbell said he had been drinking earlier in the day and into the night and denied assaulting (her).”

You decide.
