1. Mary Bell

Mary BellWho could look at the face of this sweet 10-year-old girl and ever imagine her to be one of the youngest serial killers ever discovered. Was this youngster who killed her playmates without any feelings of guilt the result of a monstrous family or a bad seed or something else? Too young to execute, and a victim of abuse herself, she was rehabilitated, allowed to have a family, and released, her name legally changed to protect her privacy.

2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Case It’s Based On

While the many movies in this series are fiction, they are based loosely on a real serial killer that wore a mask of human skin and was a grave robber. The real serial killer, who was also the model for the Hitchcock movie classic Psycho, lived alone in a farmhouse. Inside police found all kinds of body parts, including a box of female genitalia, a heart in a frying pan, a box of cut-off noses, the sawed-off crania from several skulls, death masks peeled off dead females, a skin vest with female breasts and genitals, and a female scalp with black hair. They wondered just how many women he had killed.

3. Murder of JonBenét Ramsey

This beautiful and talented child was found dead in the basement of her doting parents’ Boulder, Colorado, home. Police immediately assumed that either John or Patsy Ramsey were guilty of their daughter’s death. The media demonized the parents for entering her in beauty pageants and destroyed the Ramseys’ excellent reputation by promoting unsubstantiated rumors and distortions of fact. Finally, retired investigator Lou Smit analyzed the evidence again, and helped vindicate the long-suffering parents, but too late. Stubborn wrong-headed law enforcement in Boulder let the trail of the real killer go cold. This case ranks as one of the worst travesties of justice in recent times.

4. The Real Life Amityville Horror

The true story behind the Amityville Horror: Ronald DeFeo murdered six members of his family in their sleep, claiming that voices in his head compelled him to do it. The murders have been kept the public consciousness by the best-selling novel and blockbuster movie The Amityville Horror, which told the story of the Lutz family that lived in the DeFeo home and claimed it was haunted by demons and evil spirits. Though the supernatural tale of horror was debunked by just about everybody, even the Lutzes, many still find it hard to believe that anyone could have committed those murders without the influence of evil.

5. Ted Bundy

Ted BundyOne of the most infamous and frightening serial killers, this handsome, educated psychopathic law student, who stalked and murdered dozens of young college women that looked very much like the young woman who broke off her relationship with him. Bundy was a very adept and glib con artist who faked a broken arm in a sling to convince his intended victims to help him carry his textbooks to his car. Once there, he battered them with a baseball bat and carried them off for rape, torture, murder and post-mortem ghoulish rituals.
