Girl Shot After Being Mistaken for Skunk

Photo: CNN

A 9-year-old girl was dressed in a black outfit with a black hat during a Halloween party at a home in New Sewickley Township, Pa. While two to three dozen guests enjoyed themselves, the girl went to the edge of a hill to hide. After seeing her figure in the dark, police say a relative mistook her for a skunk, took out his shotgun and fired. The girl was struck in the head, back, and arm. She remains in the intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Authorities have not named the girl or the shooter, and have yet to determine whether the shooter should be charged. Police say he had not been drinking.
